The 34th edition of the International Festival of Theatre Schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER 2024 organized by JAMU student is over. The event took place on 16-20 April in Brno’s Studio Marta, Theatre Orlí Street, Goose on a String Theatre and at the Theatre Faculty of the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts. Eight countries came to present their theatre works – the Czech Republic (twice – represented by the Theatre Faculty AMU in Prague and the organizing JAMU), Slovakia, Austria, Poland, Latvia, Switzerland, Ukraine and Serbia.

During the closing ceremony, the jury awarded the Marta Prize. In the Directing category, Kristina Kellner and Jovita Siu Ji Chin won the Marta Award for Anytime, Anywhere. In particular, the jury appreciated the innovative and interdisciplinary approach that brings together multimedia, visual arts, movement and poetry through practical research. In the category of Women’s Acting, the award went to Barbora Šimová in Obraz ženy / Origin of Clouds or What It Means to Believe in Something for her impressive depiction of the character’s feelings and emotions without the use of words. The Marta Award in the Male Actor category went to Matīss Kučinskis for his heartfelt portrayal of deep feelings of hopelessness, love, calculation and hope in Hello, Out There! In the Female Actor category, the award went to Nina Perge for her sensitive conveyance of the deep and honest experience of the play in 4.48 Psychosis.
