More information about the performance:

A poetic story of Jewish refugee Ruth Maier in a parallel to the diaries of today’s girls.

Ruth Maier was born more than a hundred years ago, but her story still resonates with us. Aside from the wartime suffering associated with her Jewish ancestry, she was dealing with similar issues in her diary to that addressed by the girls of today. Family relationships, love and friendship, school joys and sorrows, dance classes, literature, theatre, trips, skiing, and, above everything else, the meaning of life. Her inner desire was for a world free of violence, war and oppression and her search for ways to be useful and helpful to others. That is a memento of the diary that has grown into a permanent message.

The theatrical production of Girl’s Diary is primarily inspired by the book The Diary of Ruth Maier by Norwegian writer Jan Erik Vold and is created by the Theatre and Education for the Deaf programme It uses speech and sign language, also elements of movement theatre, pantomime and visual expression. It is designed for both deaf and hearing audiences
